0. ALTMAN. FUR SACK FASTENING.
,1 N 27 .072. Patented May 22,1883. "EMA-4.
WITNESSES:
V INVENTOR I @CQ WWW: Nkvwmw ATTORNEYS u vzrms. Pholo-Lhhognphon wmin m. 0 c
. UNITED- STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES ALTMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FUR-SACK FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 278,072, dated May 22, 1883.
' Application filed March 30,1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES ALTMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fur-Sack Fastenings, of which the followin g is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of fastenings composed of a flexible loop and a button, and is especially adapted to sacks made of seal-skin or other fur. Prior to my invention said loop has been attached to the face of the sack, near oneedge of the sack-opening, to engage the but-ton which is attached to said face near the other edge of the opening. This arrangement, however, is objectionable, because when the loop is placed on the button it is liableto rub against and chafe or wear ing drawings, in which V Figure 1 is a front "iew'of a portion of a sack containing my fastening, the sack-open" ing being closed. Fig. 2 is a like view, showing the old arrangement of the loop. Fig. 3 is a like view, showing the sack-opening unfastened. Fig. 4 is a rcar'view of one edge of said opening.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
The letters A B designate the two edges of the sack-opening, and O D the loop and but-' ton composing the sack-fastenin g. When the sack-opening is closed said edges A B overlap each other, and are held shut by theloop 0 when I the latter is placed on the button D, theloop and button beingsituated neartheedges, in distinction from upon the edges, of the opening. By referring to Fig. 2, where the loop 0 is shown as being on the face of the sack, it will be seen that the loop crosses the outeror exposed edge, A, of the sack-opening, and hence it is liable to rub against and chafe or wear the fur on said edge( In the example shown in,
Figs. 1, 3, and 4 the loop is attached to the inner surface or back of the sack, adjacent to the edge A of the sack-opening, and at the proper place to engage the button D, which is attached to the face of the sack, near the other edge, 13, of said opening; and it will be readily seen that by this arrangement of the loop my fastening is left free of the objection above named. Said loop (J is made of braid or other suitable material, and may be attached to the sack by stitching s, or otherwise, while the button D is arranged in symmetrical position with a blind button, E, and suitable trimmings for imparting to my fastening an ornamental character.
What. I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The sack-fastening herein described, composed of the loop 0, which is attached to the inner surface of the sack, near one of the overlapping edges of the sack-opening, and
of the button D, which is attached to theface of the sack, near the other edge of said opening, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set
