TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Y
Be it known that I, JOHN CHRISTIE, of Lowell, in the county of Kent, and inthe State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Bed-Bottoms; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexeddrawings, forming part of this specication- Figure l represents a side view, and p Figure 2 a-rear view of the double spiral spring invalid-bed bottom.
Figure shows the manner in which thel springs ar'e fastened to the slats.
The nature of this invention consists in the double cone-shaped spiral springs A A, the upper ends of which A are fastened together on the slats by solder and small wire, as shown in fig.' Sgand placed underlthe slats'B, in
such a manner that each slat rests on two springs,-t hereby avoiding the necessity of any steel 0r AWood c'ro'gg. bars'toequalize the springing. The short or movable-bars c of the bottom swing on a cross-bar or pivot, D, at the bottom, and are loose in the head cross-bar E, except the outside ones, which are fastened, for the purpose of better 'adjustment to any pressure, upon the main slats, when the short ones are elevated. This short or movable portion of the bottom, which is to be elevated for invalide, i s supported by two cross-bars F F, and held in any desirable position by tightening ahthumb-serew, Gr, which passes through them.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- In a bed-bottom, composed of the springs A A, connected .andr constructed as described, the arrangement ofthe short bars C C, cross-bar E, andslotted diagonal bars F F, and screw Gr, the whole operating as specified.
