IMPROVED BED-BOTTOM. 'Y
The Schedule referred to in these Lettere Patent:l and making part of the same.
To all whom it may conc-ern Be it known that we, ALEXANDER McBrun'n and XVILLIAM P. 'Ihe nature of our invention consists in the construetion of a bed-bottom, and in the arrangement of the devices hereafter set forth and described.
Figure 1 is a perspective of ouriuvention.
Figure 2 shows the manner in which the springs on the ends of the slats are fastened.
Figure 3 shows the manner in which the spiral springs are secured to the slats.
Letter A represents the frame of our bed-bottom, which is provided with the slats B.
To each endV of these sla-ts is secured a fiat rubber spring, C, which passes over the top ofthe cross-piece D, and then is secured firmly in'pl'zlce by the pressure ofthe cross-piece 'against the end of the frame. The top of the cross-piece should be rounded off, so as to prevent the sharp edges from cutting the rubber, which they otherwise would, whenever there was the least weight brought to bear upon it.
Extending from one side to the other,in the middle of the slats, isthe rubber band e, which prevents the slats from sagging'too much atthzi-t point, or too much of a swinging side motion.
Placed upon top ofthe cross-piece F, in the bottom of frame A, are the spiral springs G, which support the slats in their centres.
A screw is passed down through the top of sluts and rubber band e, and then has anut, n, secured upon its lower end, inside of the spiral spring, binding thclu all iirrnly together.
Upon the top of the cross-piece I?, there is a flat
