Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
O. A. KELLOGG, OF ELYBIA, OHIO.
IMPROVED BED-BOTTOM.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,570, dated July 24, 1866.
To all whom 'it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, C. A. KELLOGG, of Elyria, inthe county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bed-Bottom Springs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this speciication, in which- Figure l is a top View, and Fig. 2 is a side View, showing the same parts in another position.
A represents the side rail of a bedstead, and B represents the end of a slat. The rail is grooved, as shown at G, for the purpose of receiving the staple D. The staple is secured in the groove O by means of a pin, E, as shown in Fig. 2. The ends of the slats B are notched upon both sides, as shown in Fig. 2.
F represents a piece of elastic beltin g, about two inches wide and about four inches in length. It passes through the slot or opening in the staple D, as shown in Figs. l and 2, and the ends are pressed into the notches, both upon the under and upper sides of the slat B, as shown at a a', and there secured by the wire gripes Gr, as shown in the drawings.
The angle or corners formed in the end of the slat B prevent the elastic belt F from drawing out. Each end of each slat forming the bed-bottom is constructed and mounted as herein described, the whole forming the bed-bottom, and there being no contact of either wood or metal, the bedstead will not squeak when in use; and besides, it forms a very easy and elastic support for the bed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The staple D, pin E, and belt or strap F, in combination with the gripe Gr and slat B, as and for the purpose substantially as set forth.
G. A. KELLOGG.
