To all whom 'it may concern Be it 'known that 1,.' JAMEs GoLLrNs, of Grand Rapids, in the county` of Kent, and State of Michigan,havc,invented a new and useful Improvement in Spring-Bed Bottoms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactl description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ot' this specilication, in which- Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section of my iinproved spring-bed bottom.
Figure 2 is a top view of the saine.
' Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish a simple, strong, durable, and elasticbed-bottom, which shall not be liable to break or get out of order; and
It consists in the construction and combination of various parts of the bed-bottom, as hereinafter more fully described.
A are three or more cross-slots, the ends of which rest uponledges formed upon or attached to the side rails of the bedstead, and to which, near4 their ends, are securely attached the longitudinal bars B. 'Io
the bars B, near their ends, are attached the lower,
edges ot' the cross-boards or barsC, which are set inclined, .or Haring, as shown in Figure l, and which are strengthened and securely held in position by t-he angular blocksv D, secured in the angles between the said boards or bars C and the longitudinal bars B as shown.
E are straps made of hoop-iron, which extendiengitudinally along the upper side of the bed-bottom,A
straps E, at suitable distances apart, are secured the ends of the'cro'ss-bars F, upon which the bedding is la'id.
Between the hoop-iron strap E and the longitudinal bars B, beneath each end of each of the crossbars F, are secured the 4coiled springs G;
Beneath the central cross-bar F are placed two or more extra springs G, and beneath the cross-bar F, at the head of the bed-bottom, are placed one or more ext-ra springs G, so that the parts of the bed-bottom that support the heaviest parts of the bodies of the sleepers may have additional support.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to securebyLetters Patent- An improved spring-bed bottom, formed by the combination of the cross-bars A, longitudinal bars B,
inclined or daring end-boards or bars C, angle-block,
D, hoop-iron strap E, cross-bars F, and coiled springs G, with each other, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
