Description

To all whom it may concern:
- limited Y tait-'- :em-cnw GEORGE WIDDICOMB, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
Lette/rs .Patent No. 96,750, dated November 9, 1869.
IMPRO'V'ED BED-BOTTOM.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, GEORGE WIDDICOMB, of Grand Rapids, in Athe county of Kent, and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvelnents in Bed-Bottoms; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of'this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a bed-bottom, and indthe arrangement of the devices hereafter set forth and explained.
The accompanying drawing represents a side elevation of my invention.
Letter A represents the frame, which may be made of any desired shape or size.
Extending upward, from each of the cross-pieces, at the ends of the frame, is a number of curved springs B, which may be 'formed of either wood or metal, and which support the ends of the slats C..
Secured to the bottom of the frame, near the middle, there is a cross-piece, G, upon the tcp of which there is a number of coiled springs, H, upon which the centresof the slats rest.
These kcoiled springs are 'cone-shaped, and are secured at their base to the slat G by small staples. Their upper ends are vertically. bent, to form a pin,
which is inserted into a perforation in the small block x under each Slat O.
The curved springs under each end of each slat are set into small recesses upon the end-pieces of the bedframe, so that when connected with the `slats and frame, are flush on edge with the end-pieces, and prevent the springs from being moved laterally out of place. 1
rIhe slats, with their perforated blocks and springs, B and H, can be readily packed for transporting, and can be applied to almost any bedsteadframe in use, and when so applied, form a neat, durable, and economical bed-bottom.
Having thus fully described my invent-ion,
What I claim, and desire to secure .by Letters Patent, is--e l The combination of the slats C with their .central perforated blocks x, and their curved springs B B, and helical cone-shaped springs H, on 'the piece G, and wit-lr their upper.. ends formed with pins which pass into the perforated blocks z, all as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand,'this 1st day of July', 1865);
GEO. WIDDIGOMB.
