ToALL WHoM 1T MAY coNeERN:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. SMITH, of Monroe, in the county of Green, and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Bottoms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a top perspective, and
Figure 2 a bottom perspective.
The peculiarities of this invention consist in the novel employment and combination of the several devices hereinafter set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to make my invention, I will now describe its construction.
B represents the frame of'my bed-bottom, to the head and footpiece of whichare secured the wood or metal springs A A. These springs are formed with a projection, as fully seen in the drawings, on each side of: which they gradually taper to their ends. C C represent metal, rods, which pass through the head and foot piece of frame B, and also through the springs A A, and are secured by means of screw and nut. d d represent coil springs, with an arm extending out from each to support the rods C C. These arms have ating formed at their ends, through which the rods extend. I secure the coil springs to the side bars by passing a core through" them, andvdriving staples over theV core at each end. It will be remarked that a. recess is cut into the side bars to partially receive the coil springs. D D are the cross-slats, which are retained in their places by means of leather loops, e c, and webbing,ff. Said webbing is secured to the head and foot pieces sufcicntly slack to permit the rods to operate upon the springs A A and d d.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The end springs A A, in combination with rods C C, substantially as described.
2. The coil springs al d, rods C C, springs A A, slats D D, and webbing ff, all combined substantially as p specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I aix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUELv A. SMITH.
