The
springs A are made of dat steel, and are attached permanently by screws or bolts to thesliding-boards B, and' are attached permanently to slats .I at top, likewise by screws or bolts, the springsrA extending along the lower side of each slat J, and the ends of springs A fastened to the sliding or adjustable'boards B. 'The connectingrods C are fastened to the boards B nea-'r the ends of the boards, and connect together at the centre of the horiv zontal levers D. The ends of the levers D are pvoted to the centre-brace G, and by drawing the handles of the levers toward the brace the slidingboards B B, with their springs A, are drawn toward the centre-brace G and tightened as -required.
