Be it known that I, H, W. WILLIAMS, of Stowe, Lamoille county, State of;`I Vermont, have invented new and useful and improved Adjustable Spring-Bed; and I do hereby declare the following to lbe an exact description thereof, reference being had to .the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of referencem'rked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of the spring-bed. Figure 2 a top View. Figure 3 au end view. The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement and construction of the flatsteel springs, in comf bination with their sliding boards, connecting-rods, and horizontal levers. v

A represents the flat steel springs, B their` sliding boards, C the connecting-rods, and D the horizontal levers. E represents thel lower square frame, that has a centre stationary brace and cross-piece @and slots in each side in which the sliding boards B B are moved back or forward'to regulate the tighteningoithe springs A, and are held to their places by a pin, H, that is dropped through apertures'in the sides of the frame E. The

springs A are made of dat steel, and are attached permanently by screws or bolts to thesliding-boards B, and' are attached permanently to slats .I at top, likewise by screws or bolts, the springsrA extending along the lower side of each slat J, and the ends of springs A fastened to the sliding or adjustable'boards B. 'The connectingrods C are fastened to the boards B nea-'r the ends of the boards, and connect together at the centre of the horiv zontal levers D. The ends of the levers D are pvoted to the centre-brace G, and by drawing the handles of the levers toward the brace the slidingboards B B, with their springs A, are drawn toward the centre-brace G and tightened as -required. The levers are then secured by the hooks L L, attached to the centre-brace G. The top slats J are braced at their ends by a leather strap, M.

What I claim as my invention, andy desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The flat steel springs A, their sliding boards B, with connecting-rods Or and horizontal levers D, when arranged and combined as herein described, and for the'purposes set forth.
