Description

@einen gisten @stmt @ffice WILLIAM B. JOHNSON, OF BOWLING GREEN, KEN TU CKY. Letters Patent No. 68,204, dated August 27, 1867.
IMPROVIID BUCKLE.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. Jonnsong'of Bowling Green, in the county of Warren, and-State of Kentucky have invented a new and improved Buckle; andv I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object of the improved buckle embraced in the present invention is to lincrease the ease with which the buckle can be fastened and unfastened, whatcverthe buckle may be applied to.
This buckle is simple in construction, and for that reason, as well as for many others, superior to other buckles of the common form. By the use of the ordinary buckles the tongueeither becomes loose, and consequently apt to drop out oi' its proper place when relieved from strain, or, if retained long without being released, from the jaws of the bent spring G, hereinbcfore referred to.
unbuckled, becomes so fixed, owing to oxidation of the parts, as to render it almost impossible to move it for unbuekling; but by the present invention the'above-stateddisadvantage is entirely obviated.
In the accompanying plate of dran-'ings my improved buckle is illustrated, the igure being a plan or top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A,`in the drawings, represents-the buckle-frame, consisting of parallel side bars B, joined together by two end cross-bars, C O2, and an intermediate cross-bar, D. E, the tongue orsprong` to the buckle, hung by its looped end F to one, O, of the end bars O C2 of the frame A, so as to loosely swing thereon. G, a spring, bent into theshape, from end to end, shown in the drawings, and secured by means of a screw, a, at its centre point to the cross-bar O2. This spring at its centre point is made of a V or angular-shape, opening at 6 so as to admit the loose end of the buckle tongue E, into the space embraced between the sides, to the V-shaped portion. The two ends to the spring` G pass through loops secured to the cross-bar O2.
H, a spring, secured at one end to intermediate crosssbar D of the buckle-frame A, in suitable position to thro w the tongue E, when By the spring G the tongue is held fastened in position,-and, whether there is or is not strain thereon, it is impossible for it to become loose or detached, as is obvious. `vAnd furthermore, from the ab'ovedescription it is plainly apparent that my improved buckle is plain and simple in construction, effective and practical in operation, and most durable and serviceable for use.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved buckle, having its tongue secured by means of a spring, substantially as and for the purpose described. l
WILLIAM B. JOHNSON.
