IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.

'IO ALL WHOM I'l MAY CONCERN: Be it known that I, J. K. ANDREWS, of Antrim, in the county of Guernsey, nud in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and do hereby declare that the following is a full,`

clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. In the annexed drawings making part of' this specificntion- A represents a metallic plnte, which has two slots or openings G G punched crosswise of it near its ends. A centre-piece, C, is then left, and the metal B B on cach side of this centre-piece, between it and the slots G Gf', is struck down or punched below-the surface of thc platea suitable distance. The entire centre may be struck down and a brace inserted, if desirable. Upon the portions BB of the plate are seen the pins-ee.

These pins are mede of suitable length to oet as tongues to pass through the leather to be confined, and being inserted in holes made in the parts B B are there brazerl or soldered, or otherwise securely fastened. a repre; sents a pin formed or secured upon the under side of one of the end rails D of the plete.,v Thisl pin also acte as a tongue. The object of this buckle is to confine twostrnps together without the necessity of stitching.

The mode of confiningr these sti-:tps is clearly seen in iig. 1. E and F being the straps. Strnp E has two holes made in its end to i'it over the tongues'e e. The strap is then looped and its other end passed back under rail D', over brace C, and then under rail D, and the tongue a is caught in a hole in said strap made to receive it. The other strap F is passed under rnil D and has holes` in it, which are caught upon the tongues e e for the purpose of holding it securely in its plnce. There muy be a tongue made, if desirable, upon the u-nder side of the brace C to give more Strength and security to the fastening. This buckle may be iliade either of wrought, rolled, or cast metal. g

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure' by Letters Patent, is- Thc plate A,'formed substantially in the manner herein represented, for'the purpose of confining together straps without stitching or riveting, as is herein fully set forth.
