To all whom it 'may concern:V

Be it known that I, SAFFORD B. FREEMAN, of Burlington', in the county of Ds Moines and in the State of Iowa, have invented' certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Bottoms; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part ot' this specification. A

The nature of my invention consist-s in 'the' construction and arrangement of a Bed-Bottoni, as willbe hereinafter fully set forth.

1n order t-o enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is an end view, and

Figure 2 a plan View of my bed-bottom.

Figure 3 is a plan view of one ofthe springs.`

A A rcpresentthe bed-slats, which run lengthwise in the lood, and are secured near their ends to cross bars, B B, running underneath the same,

The slats, A A, are let into the cross-bars, B B, as shown' in ig.1, and then fastened by screws.

Eaehof the cross-bars B rests upon two wooden springs, C O, resting o n a crossfbar, D, in the bed.

The' springsO C at each ond of the bottom are bent in opposite directions, as shown in fig. 1, and

placed one on top of the other. The two springs may 'then be connected together-inthecenter by a bolt, a,

cross-bars B and D, at each end of the pair of springs,

said bolt passing through the. slots or notches in the springs, and fastened by a nut, d,punderneatll.

It will readily beseen that by means of the nuts d d the spring of the bed-bottom can be easily regulated.

What I Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The springs C G, constructed and arrangedjas described,and regulated by means of the bolts b b and nuts d d, substantially as and for the purposes herein set fort-h.

2. The combination of the slats A A, cross-bars B B and D D, springs G G, bolts l) l), and nuts d d, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. i
