Description

o. s. oseoon, or BURLINGTON, Iowa.
Letters Patent No. 98,401, dated December 28, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN 13am-1aerror/rs.`
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and. making part of the lame.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, O. S. OSGOQD, of Burlington,
in the county of Des Moines, and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Bottoms; and do hereby declare that-thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
- The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bed-bottom, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art t'o which my invention appertains to make and use th same, I will now' proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure I is a plan view, and
Figure 2 a longitudinal verticalsection.
A represents the bedstead, across the centre of which, near the lower edge of the sides, is secured a cross-bar, B. rIhe lower side of this cross-bar is beveled slightly, from the centre upward, toward the sides of the bar, that is, toward the ends of the bedstead.
0n the beveled sides of the cross-bar B are secured. the ends of a. series of spring-slats, O O, which extend in an inclined position upward, toward -the ends of the bedstead, each set resting in notches upon another cross-bar, D, which issuitably secured in the sides of the bedstead, above the cross-bar B, and closer to it than tothe end of the bedstead.
The upper outer ends of the spring-slats C C are, on their upper side, connected by means of a crossslat, E, firmly secured to the same, said cross-slats. forming supports for the bed-slats G G. These latter slats, which run lengthwisein the bedstead, are slotted at their ends, and secured to the cross-slats E E by screws or bolts passing through said slots into the cross-slats, thus allowing the bed-slats G G to move freely, and accomodate themselves to t-he depression of the spring-slats C C.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let# ters Patent, isy In combination with a bedstead, the cross-bars B and D D, spring-slats C O, cross-slats E E, and bed-slats G G, all constructed and arranged as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 8th day of October, 1869.
O. S.- OSGOOD.
