LUTHER W. FIELD, OF CAMDYEN, ILLINOIS, ASSI'GNOR 'IOHIMSELF AND DAVID H. DINSMORE, OF POTTER, YORK.
Letters Patent No. 94,7 31, dated Septmnbe-r 14, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN' CHAIR-SEAT.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the To lwhom 'it may concern Be it known that I, LUTHER W. FIELD, of Camden, in the county of Schuyler, and State of Illinois, have invented a new `and useful Improvement in Chair- Seats; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference 'marked thereon, and being a part of .this specification.
The nature of this invention relates to an improved elastic chair-seat;I and consists in constructing the same of narrow wooden slats, supported upon wires passing transversely through them, the ends of said wires being brought around the seat-frame and secured together underneath the seat, as hereinafter more fully described.
, In the accompanying drawings, which are a bottom plan View of my improved seat,
A represents the front and rear, and B the side rounds of the seat-frame, mortised in the legs C.
D are narrow slats ofA tough elastic wood, through which are inserted `the transverse wires E, having their ends brought around and under the rounds A, and looped together under the seat, as shown.
To take up the slack of the supporting-wires and render the seat sufficiently rigid, I connect the ends of the pair of wires with a longitudinal Wire loopF, which I twist'until the wiresv E are suiiciently taut.
To prevent the edges of the slats from Charing against each other, between each slat and the adjoining one, I place on the wires E the washers a, as shown.
It will readily be seen that a chair-seat constructed as described will readily conform to the contour of the sitter, aiording an easy seat, economyin cost, and durability of service.
The same device maybe applied in the manufacture of spring bed-bottoms.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
` rlhe construction of a chair-sean herein described, with slats D, transverse wires E, loop I", and washers a., in connection with the rounds A-and B, and legs C, of a chair, arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
LUTHER W. FIELD.
