IMPROVED SPRING-BED BOTTOM.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all lwhom it lnza/ 1,1 concern Beit know'vn that I, CHARLES HACKER, oi Euphemia, in the county of Preble, in the State oi' Ohio, have Ainvented a new and improved Spring-Bed Bottom; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the' accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Like letters, occurring on the different figures, refer to like parts.
Figure 1 represents a top view of one part of the ned-bottoln,` the two parts being identical in construclon.

Slats, K, extend across the frame, and on which are arranged spiral springs, D. These springs are stayed at the top by the cords F, and at their centres by the cords E, as shown by the red lines, Iig. 2.
Slats, H', are arranged longitudinally, and are supported by the slats K, and on these longitudinal slats represents a' longitudinal section of the is arranged a seriesof short springs, A, stayed by cords attached at the top crossing, at right angles, as shown, and having the ends fastened to the frame.

The spiral springs A being shorter, are only brought into action When the longer springs are compressed to a level with the shorter, and, by further compression, the incumbent Weight would rest on the cushions of the middle rail.
The object of this invention is to adapt the bed-bot tom to persons of varying-weight, and to prevent sagging in the centre, which is almost uniformly the case with spring-bottoms in use.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the slats HK, the spiral springs A D, the cushioned rail B, the cords E F, in the inanner shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
