Be it known that 1,'HERY Guess, of Tin, inthe county of Seneca,and in the State of Ohio, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Windows; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon. In` the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, A represents a window-frame, made of any desired material and dimensions, and provided with grooves, in which rt and work the tongues of the sash B.

B represents a window-sash, made with a tongue projecting from one side, to/fit in a groove in the windowframe, A, andwith a groove in theothcr side, in which [its an adjustable tongue, C.

The tongue C is made as long as one part'of the window, and just so as to t in and fill the grooves in the wiudowfframe and the side of the window-sash, and wheninserted therein holds 4the sash B in the frame without the use of slats 'or other device. p

A spring, D, is secured' in a suitable recess in the adjustable tongue C, or in the grooves in the sash B or frame A, for the purpose of' pressing the tongue C- firmly against the bottom of the grooves, and thereby hold the sash in any position desired without the use of weights or other device for that purpose.

'Asmall setsrew,f, passes through the side of the window-sash B into the adjustable tongue G, and holds the same in its place until it may be desired to take the sash out of the frame, at whiehtirne the serew'f is withdrawn froui the tongue C, and then by pressing upon the bottom or top thereof until it can be gra-sped by the lingers, when, by pulling one way and pushing the Vsash to the opposite end of the frame A, the said tongue is withdrvamhwljhe sash-,will readilyl slip out of the frame.

'It will be seen that I c'an make a better joint than can be lmade by the' Vuse ol` slats, thereby requiring no weather-strip, and that I combine luy-fastener with the sash, or rather my sash is a self-fastenerandvthe same is cheaper and more convenient than any. other known device. v

z represents a metallieplate or lever, pvoted to the top of the lower part of the sash B, one 'end of which catches beneath pins or projeetionsjj, and thereby locks the window at any point desired. y

Having thus fully described my inv eution,'what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The tongue 0,'spring D, set-serew g, bar h, andpinsjj, arranged in combination with the sash B, to operate as set forth. j
