ui Sietze SlMON F. STANTON, OF MANCHESTER, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JOHN M. STANTON, OF ALEXANDRIA, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
Letters .Patent No. 85,867, dated Janna/ry 12, 1.869.
INIIPROVENIENT IN BLIND-FASTENER The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the saure.
To all whom it may concern.- l
Be it known that I, SIMON F. S'rAnToN, of Manchester, in the county of Hillsborough, and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and improved Blind,- Fastener; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, andexact description thereof, which will enable thosev skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in fastenin'g window-blinds, either closed or open; and
It consists in the construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described.
Figure lrepresents the blind as open, and fastened back with my fastener.
Figure 2 is a vertical section of g. l through the line x x. l
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding pr'sv A represents the blin -B is the window-ame.
O is the windowsill.
D is a semicircular bar, which is fastened to the windbw-sill at e, and 'to the frame or lto the Wall of the building at f.
It bows outward, so that the bottom rail of the blind passes over it ata point distant from the frame equal, f to the radius of the circle.
The top side of this bar is notched, as seen in the drawing, zto receive the end of the verticalzbolt, g, on the blind.` y
This bolt is attached to a back piece, h, which is screwed to the blind.
The bolt is secured to the back piece h by clips t', so that it can play freely up and down. I
The back piece h has a projecting lug, j, and the bolt has another similar projecting lugor handle, k, by which it is raised when it is desired to adjust the blind.
Between the two lugs, j and k there isa spring, l, which bears upon the lug of the zbolt with a constant pressure, thus keeping thel bolt in contact with the bar D at all times.
The bar D passes through the lower end of the bolt, thussupport-ing the blind, and holding the bar up to its true horizontal position.
When the blind is closed, the bolt will engage with the lfirst notch, o, on the bar, and when it is fastened back, it engages with the last notch, n.
The intermediate notches are for holding the blind in any other desired position, or partiallyopen.l
It will thus be seen that the blind, by this arrangement, is securely fastened When-entirely open, or par' tially open, and when entirely closed, and in such a manner that all movement of the blind is prevented until the bolt is raised, thus securing (among others) the advantage of fastening the blind securely when but partially opened.
I am aware`of the patent granted to W; Patton July 2, 1861, for an improved door and shutter-fastener, iu which a bell-crank lever is employed, in connection with a notched semicircular bar; but this construction I do not claim.
What I claim as new, and desire'to secure by Letters Patent, isl The combination of the spring l with the angular back' piece h`j and the slotted angular slide g 1t,Where by the latter is held engaged with the notched semicircular' guide D, constructed and arranged as shown and described. e
The above specicationof my invention signed by me, this 6th day of May, 1868.v
l SIMON F. STANTON.
