To all whom it mal/y concern Be it known that I, Ln GRAND DODGE, of Syracuse,

I' in the eounty of Onondaga, in the Stateof New York,

have invented a new and useful Improvement in Operating indow-Blinds; and I de hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specilication, in whieh-` Figure l is an inside view of the casing and blinds.

My invention relates to that class of shutter-operators consisting of a sliding rack-bar,` which engages with a pinion forming part of the moving portion of the hinge; and

Iteonsists in the use, in connection therewith, of a centrally-pivoted cam-lever, provided with a handle, for the purpose of clamping the rack in any desired i position, as hereinafter described. v

That part of B, which moves around theppintlel of the hinge, is provided with teeth, so as to form apinion, I), iig. 2, and this pinion engages with a sliding rack, e, which has' a prolongation or rod,'E, running through the casing to the inside of the house', terminating ina hand-knob,v g', iig. 2.

By'pulling inward on the rod g E, the blind, A', is thrown open, and by a reversed movement of the rod the blind isclosed.,

SBy turning down the cam-lever H into the position shown, the rod E is pressed down in its seat, and the blind is clamped securely in an open or closed position, or in any intermediate position.

v By these means I obtain an eicient, simple, and inexpensive method for operating the blinds of windows, and securing them at vany desired point of their swing.

I am aware'that, in shutter-operators of this class, the inner part of the rack-'bar hasbeen formed with a4 series 0f notches, adapted to catch on the edge of a plate, a pivoted button beingl used simply to prevent the rod rising from engagement with the plate; but this I do not claim, as it forms no part of `my inven- Having thus described my invention,
