wassen@ @tutti Y ORI o N R. HIGIIT, vor D'oWAeIAc, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent No. 83,632, dated November 3, 186,8.'
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent Aand making part of the same.
To whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ORION R. Hrenrr, of Dowagiac, in the county of Cass, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and -useful Improvement in Building Window-Sash and Frames; and Ido declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification.
`Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, partially in section. v
Figure 2 is a plan view of a sash with my improvement. p
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the same,
The nature of my invention consists in the peculiar arrangement of the sash stop-pin loosely in the stop, so that said pin may be used for rigidly fastening the sash when desired; I construct a window-frame, A, the two sides of which, B, are provided-with channels C, rabbeted out by a proper tool. construction,.in the outer side of the stiles E of which I rabbet corresponding channels F, within which are secured the stops G, by means of pins H and s piral or other springs I, the springs being so arrangedl that they operate between the bottom of the channels in I then take a sash, D, of ordinary the Stiles and the edge of the stops, to force the stops to partially enter the channels in the sides of the frame, when the sash is in place. Through one of the Stiles I extend the pins H, as shown at J, in order to furnish Y means of compressing the springs, and thereby withdrawing the stop entirely from the channels in the frame, when it is desired to remove the sash. p f The outer ends of these elongated pins may be provided with a thumb-piece, K, to facilitate their being turned, while their opposite ends may pass through the stops, and be provided with a screw-thread, which may engage with a suitable nut, countersunk into 'the edge of the stop.
Then, when it is desired to fasten the window, and prevent its being opened from the outside, it is'necesthrough the nut', will engage with the bottom of the channel in the corresponding side of the sash.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of pin J K, loosely in stop G, for the purpose of rigidly fastening the sash when desired, wsubstantially as and for the purposes described.
