ABE CORNELL, 'OF ST.A LOUIS, MISSOURI.A
Leners PatelNo. 101,983, dated April 19, 1870; alienated April 14, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ol the same.
This invention relates toimprovenients in hinges to be used for opening, closing, and locking the blinds by turning a shaft projecting through the window-frame Y. to the interior of the-building.
The invention consists in a certain improved arrangement and construction of parts as more fully hereinafter specified.
Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of a hinge constructed according to my improvement, the section being taken on the line a: a: of fig. 2.
Figure 2 represents a bottom view of the same partly sectioned.
The leaf A, which is connected to the window frame,
is provided with a large circular case, B, forming a vertical recess, C.
This case is provided at one side with au enlargement, D, which is bored or otherwise recessed for the reception of a worm, E, for gearing with a wormwheel, F, to be placed. in the center ofthe recess C.
This recess for the worm E is parallel with the wing A, and on the right side thereof for the worm, being socketed in the end, to receive theend of a shaft, G, projecting through the'j amb.
The other leaf Hof the Yhinge is provided lwith a disk, I, from the center of which projects a squareshanked piutle, K,wl1icl1 passes through the wheel F, and the bottom of the case B.
The said pintle has a lug, L, upon one side, which, when the blind or leaf H is turned to the right point,
vwill pass througha slot, M, at the side of the hole in the bottom of the case This lug prevents the raising of the blinds oil' the hinges at all times, except when it is coincident Willi the said slot.
The disk I is provided with a downward-projecting ange, N, lapping the sides of lthe case B, so as to prevent rain, snow, or other matter from working into the case, by which the part-s would be injured by corrosiou, or filled with dust.
These hinges are made of all sizes, and may be ap plied to blinds already having other kinds of hinges at the top. The blind will be lockedl in any position by the action of the worm-gear T.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A pair of window-blindbinges consisting of the leaves A H, case B, disk I, piutle K, with its fasten-4 ing lug L, enlargementD, worm-Wheel F and Worm E, each of said parts being constructed'and arranged with reference to the 'others -in the manner described.
