ce@ genital @www SAMUEL MYERS, OF HOGESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
Lette/rs Patent No. 85,394,
dated December 29, v1868.
IIVIPROVENLENT IN WINDOW-FRAMES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
-To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL MYERs, of Hogestown, in the county of Cumberland, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wiudow-Fram es; andl do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make' and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which-k .s
Figure 1 is a front ."iew of a window-frame, illustrating my improvement.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional view of the same, taken throughthe line x z, g. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention has for its object to improve the construction of window-frames so that the sashes may be easily and conveniently removed, without its being necessary to remove the partiugbead, which is usually a troublesome operation, frequently breaking the bead, injuring the paint, and defacing the frame; and
It consists in making the lower part of the casing of the frame, and of the parting-bead, detachable, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the lower sash, and B is the upper sash of the Window, about the construction of which parts there is nothing new.
Gis the window-frame, the outer part or casing of one side of which is made in two parts, c and c2, the upper part, c, of which is stationary, beingsecurely attached to or forming a part of the frame C.
The .lower part, c2, is detachable, sliding into and out of its seat. The lower end of the slidin g part ozis made with atenon, as shown in dotted lines in g. 2, which enters a mortse in the lower part of the frame C.
The lower end of the stationary part c and the upper end of the detachable partczare made inclined, as shown in iig. 2, so that the said detachable part may be removed by drawing its upper end outward, and at the same time themjn their proper grooves while being raised andy The bead D is mane in two para, d1 and d2. 'rheupper part, d, is securely attached to the stationary part, c, of the frame or casing G, and the lower part,l d2, is securely attached to the detachable part, c2, of the frame C, so as to be taken out and put in, in oonnection with said detachable part c2.
The detachable pieces cz 'and di may be secured in place by a button. or catch, E, pivoted to the ,stationary `part of the vframe C, as' shown in the figures, 1 and 2..
If desired, a kuob, F, may be attachedv to the mvable part, c2, of the casing, for convenience in handling it.
The movable part, c2 and d2, can b'e Adetached only when the lower sash is lowered, and as it is removed it will partially remove the said lower sash, allowing it to be readily removed. The upper sash may then be lowered and'removed. Having thus described my invention,
I claim las new, and desire to secureby Patent'-,
Constructing the window-frame with the lower portion of one side of the casing of said frame C, and of the parting-bead D, removable together, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
Letters SAMUEL MYERS. Witnesses:
