Description

@with tsts atnt @fitte IMPROVED WINDOW FRAME.
@la rlgibule nient in in tiges terts zitfnt mit milling pint ui tige sume.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHARLES CROLEY, oi' Dayton, in the county of Montgomery. in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved lVindow Frame; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a box-window frame, with a pocket-pieoe so constructed and attached that the sash may be readily removed, and the usual strips dispensed with.
To enable-others skilled in theart to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
The figure represents a perspective view of the window frame, with a portion of one sido cut away to show the poeket-pieee- A represents the frame, containing the upper sash B and the lower sash O, which are held within grooves oi' the frame in the usual manner. These grooves may be formed within the frame proper, or by the usual strips, or by fncings. A boxing is formed by cutting away the side of the frame, :is represented, or by Cutting through the side of the frame or otherwise. This boxing is made longer than thc lower sash, and of the width of the sash and the parting strip, and beneath this boxing is a niortise in the sill of the frame. Into this boxing is iitted the p'ockct-piece'D, to the upper end of which is a pin to stay the upper end in position within the boxing, the lower end fitting within a mortise in the sill F, by which it is held with the nid of a catch, e, the eccentriclike end oi' which rests against the side of the mortise. This Catch has :t shaft passing through the pocket-piece and a terminal plate, by which it is turned. The part of the pocket-piece D which corresponds to the parting strip used'between the sasbes is rounded near the bottom, and shortened to let the pocket-piece fall below its` proper position.
The use will be readily comprehended by describing the operation of removing the sash. The catch e being turned about a quarter movement, the lower sash being first raised up, the pocket-piece descends suiiieiently to release the pin at the top, .then bringing the lower sash down, it is pressed towards 'the side, which disengages the opposite side from the groove; it is then lifted out; then the upper sash is brought down and removed in a similar manner. Thus the sash is removed without the necessity of removing the strips, and also obviating the use of strips.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The poeketpiece D, having the catch e, or its equivalent, and its arrangement with reference to the window frame A and sash B and O, in the manner substantially as and for the purpose described.
CHARLES CROLEY.
