Tor all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEONARD' D. HOWARD, of St.

, Johnsbury, in the county of Caledonia, and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Blind-Fastenings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and'use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiication.

AThis invention relates to an improvement Ain fastenings for blinds and shutters of windows; and

It consists in providing two hook-levers, which are pivoted to the blind upon a central pivot, in such manner as to cross each other, each with a lateral' projection or prong upon the inner side of the blind, sc

A is the blind or shutter.

B is the window-sill.

C represents the outside of the wall.

D is the fastening, which is fastened to the under edge of the blind or shutter, and consists of a recessed plate, e, and two hook-levers, f and g. These levers are secured in the recess of the. plate eby means of a central screw, h, as seen in the drawing.

Each of the levers has a projecting lug, which receives the pressure of two spiral springs, which are confined in the recess of the plate, beneath the cover-y ing-plate t, seen in yellow color in the drawing, through which the lugs and the spiralv springs are seen in dotted lines. A

j is the fastening-pin in the window-sill. The levers are so arranged that the pressure of the spiral springs serves to throw them together, as seen' in iig. 1, the pressure being constant, whether the blind is open disclosed. I

k represents an' arm on each lever, the arm of g crossing f, and c tce versa, so that when the two arms arepressed towards'each other, the ends of the levers will be spread apart, and the hooks released from the pin j, in the window-sill, and from the staple or hook in the wall.

The method of operation is so plainly shown in the drawing, that further description is deemed unnecessary.

'I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The pivoted levers f g, when provided with the lateral-operating prongs k 7c, arranged, with relation to each other, in the manner herein shownand described, for the purpose specified.
