Description

@with tatee getest @Hire EDMUND HUDDART, OF PRAIRIE DU SAQ, WISCONSIN.
Letters vPatent No. 66,591, dated July 9, 1867.
IMPROVED DOOR-HOLDER.
'ro ALL WHOM 1T MAY coNcERN:
Be it known that I, EDMUND HUDDART, of Prairie du Sac, in the county of Sauk, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts 0f a door-holder in such a manner that one portion being att-ached to adoor, and the other part to the wall, the door may be held open and in one position by the friction occasioned by springs, as will be hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents a side view of the holder, and
Figure 2 an edge view.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A is a staple attached to a plate which is fastened to the wall by screws or otherwise. B represents the plate to which the staple is attached. C represents the part which is fastened tothe door. Thisv is also a plate,
to which is attached a stud, D. This stud extends from the plate to the point marked a, where it formen. stop against which the staple strikes when the door is swung back. c care two springs attached to opposite sides of the stud D, near the base of the stud at e, as seen in lig. 1. The outer ends of these springs are bent inward, forming half circles, or nearlyV so, the convex sides of which circles are designed to be in cont-act, or nearly so, with each other, as seen in fig. 2, while the ends turn out in such a manner thatwhen thestaple strikes the'm, the springs open and allow the staple to pass and strike vthe stud, when the springs immediately close upon it and hold it. A slight pull on the door is s'ulcient to withdraw the staple when .it is desired to close the door. The arrangement of the parts may be reversed, if desired, and the staple placed on the door and the springs ou the wall.
What I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of staple and plate A B, the stud and plate C D, and the spring c c, substantially as shown and described for the purposes herein set forth.
EDMUND HUDDART.
