Definitions
- my invention consists in a semicircular notched iron bar permanently riveted to the inside of one wing of the hinge, the notches ofthe bar falling into the notch ofthe other wing ofthe hinge.
- A represents the winged hinge, with notches B and O at the top of the wings.
- the fastener is a semicircular notched iron bar, D, with square notches, E E, on the under side.
- Theloneencl of this bar D is riveted permanently on the inside of one wing, (as at 'G,) but the ber. plays loosely on the rivet H as ar pivot, so that the bar can be raised or'lowered suciently high to fall into the notches B and C of the wings.
- the notches of the wings and of the bar are all square-shaped. ⁇
- the hinge is fastened by screws to a shutter-blind on the edge of the shutter, as winged hinges are usually screwed on, and when the shutters are to be bowed the bar rests with its notch E in the notch C,at any angle required, and'when the shutter isA thrown clear back, the end of the bar D rests against the opposite wing, (as seen at J,) and thus the shutterv is held rmly when partly or entirely open.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. ROUTZAHN, of Frederick City,- Frederick county, State of vh'flaryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shutter Fasteners; and I do. hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents the fastener open wide.
Figure 2, half open.
The nature of my invention consists in a semicircular notched iron bar permanently riveted to the inside of one wing of the hinge, the notches ofthe bar falling into the notch ofthe other wing ofthe hinge.
A represents the winged hinge, with notches B and O at the top of the wings. The fastener is a semicircular notched iron bar, D, with square notches, E E, on the under side. Theloneencl of this bar D is riveted permanently on the inside of one wing, (as at 'G,) but the ber. plays loosely on the rivet H as ar pivot, so that the bar can be raised or'lowered suciently high to fall into the notches B and C of the wings. The notches of the wings and of the bar are all square-shaped.` The hinge is fastened by screws to a shutter-blind on the edge of the shutter, as winged hinges are usually screwed on, and when the shutters are to be bowed the bar rests with its notch E in the notch C,at any angle required, and'when the shutter isA thrown clear back, the end of the bar D rests against the opposite wing, (as seen at J,) and thus the shutterv is held rmly when partly or entirely open.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv The construction of the hinge with its square notches at the top, audits semicircular bar with corresponding notches, when combined and operated as herein described and for the purposes set forth.
' l JOS. L. ROUTZAHN.
