IMPROVED BRUSH-STOCK AND HANDLE.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, ALBERT A. YOUNG, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Brushes; and I hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, of which- Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of the invention.

The letter A represents the body of the brush, B the cap or cover, 0 the handle, D the screw, a the groove, 6 the pin or bottom of handle.

My invention consists in providing an extension-handle to a brush or duster, in such a manner that the handle may be used at either end of. the brush, as the wear of the same may require. And in order that others may understand the nature and use of my invention, and be enabled to manufacture the same, I will proceed to explain it.-

I apply or put in t he. L l qlin llhfiredustingematerial, into the wood or'body part of the brush, of whatever material made, in the usual mode of making brushes. In the upper part or top of the wood or body of the brush, I make a channel or groove, either entirely within the body or partially within and cover the remaining part with tin, or any suitable material, nailed or fastened to the same. In this channel or groove I plncea handle, running the entire length of the body of the brush, and extending at one end in length sufficient for a handle, to use in any desirable manner. The handle is free to slip either way, but that it may be firm, Iinscrt a screw or other fastening at either or both ends of the body of the brush, passing down through the handle into the body again, when the screw is taken out, that the handle may not he pushed entirely out, and also that it may not roll or turn in he hand. Instead of one extended handle, I may divide the handle so that either part may be pushed in or drawn out, as needed, putting a ring at the end of the handle.

I am aware that there are other devices for the same purpose, but I claim that my device is novel, cheap, and of practical utility.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination and arrangement of the body of the brush with respect to the cap 13, the handle C, the screw I), the groove a, and the pin 6, whereby the handle 0 may be extended at either end of the brush, the several parts being constructed and arrangedwith respect to each other substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
