Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved horse-brush, having a flexible back, that the brush may be brought more perfectly'to conform to the animals body upon which it may be used, and thus cause all the bristles to bear and operate in the rubbing-process.
It consists in connecting together the parts which form the back of the brush, by transverse leather hinges, and by a longitudinal metallic spring, covered with strips of veneer-ing.
In the accompanying drawings, A A and B are vthe jointed parts composing the back 'of the brush. Gis
the strap or handle; d is the spring, and-consists of a thin plate of tempered steel, which is screwed or other-` wise aiixed to the back of the brush, and is hidden from view by a thick capping or veneering, b. e e are leather hinges, for the purpose of excluding dirt and dust from the joints bf the back.
To use this brush, the handle is slipped under the strap'O, with the ball and fingers resting upon the outer joints A, in the usual manner.
A modification of thisbrush may be made by hinging the joints together with India rubber, or by metal hinges and India-rubber springs, butin either case the jointed back will be indispensable.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the horse-brush, having its partsA A B connected together by the transverse leather hinges e e, and by the longitudinal metallic spring d, covered with strips of veneeiing, b, as herein described, for the purpose specified. v
