To ALL -WHOM rr MAY GONoERN:
y l Be -it known that I,:WILLIAM `Yo'uNeBLooD, of tho city, county, and State of New` York; have invented a new and improved Horse-Collar; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and' exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in 'the'art to lmake and use th'e same,' ret`erence bei-ng had to the accompanying drawir'ngs,l forming part'of' this specification; in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view 'of my invention. Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view ofthe same. Similar letters of reference indicate oorresponding'parts. The object of my invention is to providea horse-collar whichshall no t be forced out of itsproper shape by the action of the hames, when the animal is drawing a heavy load. The 'stitching in the groove of the Ordinary leather collar soon becomes worn, and consequently gives way under a heavy strain upon thefhames,
rendering the collar useless. Tubular collarsof Indial rubber have also been formed, rand either filled in the ordinary manner, or the fillingfirst set up in the desired form and coated with India r'ubber. p
The exterior' surfaces of these collars are of -the usual form, but the interior surface bears at all points upon the iilling, and particularly at the points where thep'hameslare made to act. It follows, therefore,'that anyundne and varied strain upon the latter compresses the filling, bringing both sides of one arin of the collar together, destroying the filling, and forcing the lcollar out of its proper shape` to such au extent as to render it useless.
My invention consists in providing a tubular India-rubber collar with a thick partition of the same material, extending longitudinally of said collar, and immediately beneath the bearing-surfaces of the haines. The colla;` is thus divided intoltwo parts ,or tubes, each provided with a separate'illing. 'The edge of thelpartition being broughtimmediately beneath the hames, cannot be compressed in any appreciable degree, andthe filling cannot therefore be destroyed from the causes beforementioned.
A represents al horse-collar of ordinary exterior. Itis made of one single piece of rubber, forming tiro tubes, Aa' b', separated longitudinally by-a 'thick rubber partition,a,'for tbepurpose of strengthening that portion of the collar which is`to receive the hames. The joint is either made-by cem'exlitring the ends together, as at I1 in iig. 1, or they may besecurecl cop-perdrivets, orin any other suitable manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire tosecureby Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, an Indiefrubber horse-coll'ar of tubular form',-when said collar is divided longitudinally by the thick india-rubber partition a, forming an increased,l bearing-surface for the han1es,asl
herein shown and described.
