IMPROVEDFABRIG FOR COVERING HORSE-COLLARS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
u Be it known that I, EUGENE SULLIVAN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new manufacture in thc shape of an Improved Chemical Water-Proof Covering for. the Bearing-Surfaces of Horse- `Collars; and I do herebydeclare that the following;r is afull and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing of the section of a horse-collar which forms a portionof this specification.
My said new manufacture is produced by the combination of elastic fibrous fabric with a layer or coating of vulcanized caoutchouqror gutta percha, or any other composition containinga suicicnt proportion of said gums to produce a smooth, elastic, and durable waterproof surface, substantially likelthat produced by the said gums when combined with fibrous fabrics in` the usual manner.
The fibrous portion of said manufacture must be composed of wool, or some other elastic material, and must be of sutiicient thickness and strength to enable the same to be smoothly and securely combined with the leather portion' of a horse-collar, substantially as shown in the accompanying drawing.
The said new covering-material must also possess suiicient strength to endure the strain that will be brought upon the same during the operation of stuffing the collar, and afterwards endure all the wear and tear naturallyincident to the practical use of said collar. i
In the accompanying drawinga is the elastic fibrous portion of my improved covering for the bearingsurfaccs lof `horse-collars, and 6 is the elastic water-proof portion of the same.
In the use of my said new manufacture7 (in the 'shape of an elastic covering for the bearing-surfaces of horse-col1ars,) either side thereof may be placed outermost, at theopton of the user.
What I claim as my invention, and desire tosccure by Letters Patent, as new manufacture, is-
The within-described improved elastic water-proof covering for the bearing-surfaces of horse-collars.
The aforegoing specification of iny new and improved water-proof covering for the hearing-surfaces of horsecollars, signed this 27th day of May, 1868. 1
