Description
BENJMIN F. KOLLER, OF SHREWSBURY, PENNSYLVANIA.
' Letters Patent No. 101,630, dated April 5,1870.
IMPROVED SCRUBBING-BRSH.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making peut o! the same VTo all whom itgnuy conce/rn Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. loLnnR, of Shrewsbury, in the county of York and State of Penn- Sylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improve- ,V ment in Scrubbing-Brnshes; and I do hereby declare. that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation ofv my invention in perspective.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same.
My invention relates to scrnbbinghrushes, and conin such a manner that the lower edges of the rubber are about even with the ends of the bristles. In constmcting these protecting-flanks I usually employ a single strip of stout rubber, about one-eighth of an inch in thickness, and divide it partially in the middle, at the point where it passes around the point of the brush.
- The upper edge 0f the strip is tacked or otherwise fastened to the brush-stock. In this manner is formed a very serviceable and durable brush. The rubber bands on the sides not only support the bristles, thereby keeping them from being bent and matted together, but they also keep the grime and. coarse dirt away from the bristles. flanks .possess of themselves remarkable erasive properties, and are designed to remove stains and spots which could not easily be eradicated by the bristles themselves. Further, the bristles always act with their ends, and wear equally. They do not 'become matted, broken, and bent.
Such a brush as I have described will be serviceable even when it is almost Worn to the wood ofthe stock.
I am aware that India rubber has been used in the construction of scrubbing-brushes, and that it appears.
in the patent of William G. Cleaveland of May 8, 1866. I do not, therefore, claim the use of that material, broadly.
What I claim .as my invention, and desire to secureA llesses.
