UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT G. WIOKER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
ROLLER FOR SKATES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 321,873, dated July 7, 1885.
Application filed. March 5, 18H5. (Model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT G. WIcKER, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rollers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is more especially designed for rollers used in what are known as parlor or roller skates, but is applicable to the rollers of furniture-casters, 8m.
My improved roller consists of a wooden core or body whose head or periphery is bound or lagged with sole-leather or other kind of leather or customary equivalent thereofsuch as vulcanized fiber-cemented or glued firmly upon it.
The drawing is an axial section of a roller embodying my invention.
A represents a piece of wood turned off to a cylindrical form, constituting the core or body. A rabbet, a, is formed in each salient angle of the wooden body, and is filled with a leather band, B, stamped or punched entire out of the hide, and consequently free from lap or seam. The shoulders a of the rabbets a are formed undercut or with an inward conical slope.
Any well-known substitute for sole-leather (such as Vulcanized fiber or celluloid) may be employed in the composition of the said bands or tires.
I claim as a new article of manufacture A composite roller composed of a wooden body, A, having undercut rabbets a a in its salient angles and elastic bands B cemented in the rabbets, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
ALBERT e. WICKER.
