Description

d dit Mayu WILLIAM S."VAN HOESEN, OF SAUGER'IIES, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 83,806, dated November 3, 1868.
COMBINED MOP-'HEAD AND SCRUBBINGPBRUSE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. VAN HoEsEN, of
Saugerties, in the county of Ulster, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined MopHead and Scrubbing- Brush; and do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction andarrangement of a mop-head and scrubhing-brush combined, which can be used either together or separate, as may be desired.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a view of the bottom or under side, and
Figure 2 is a side view, part in section.
A represents-the head of a scrubbing-brush, made in any of the known and usual ways, with a socket, B, in which the handle is inserted.
In the handle C is pivoted the mop-head D, which can be made of any suitable material. I generally intend making it of iron rod or wire, the centre of which is bent nearly the length of the brush A, resting on the head thereof, then bent backward a suitable distance, and then inward to the handle O. It then runs up along the handle, on each side, a suitable distance, and the ends are bent and inserted into the same, so that the mop-head thus formed can be turned back, when it is desired to put on or take oft the mop.
A clamp, E, is put on the handle C, which clamp encircles the ends ofthe mophead, and holds it steady in position.
Having thus fully described my invention,
Whatl claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y The combination of the scrubbing-brush A, held by the clamping-plate and set-screw handle C, mop-head D, and clamp E, all constructed substantiallyas described, and operating as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 20th day of August, 1868.
WILLIAM S. VAN HOESEN. Witnesses:
