Description
UNITED STATES PATENT CEEICE..
E. EIeEE, or CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCRUBBING-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,025, dated July 3, 1866,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, B. FIGER, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful. Improvenients in Scrubbing-Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is the head of the brush. Fig. 2 is the brush detached from the head.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the views.
My improvement relates to a scrubbingbrush so constructed thatthe lower or brush part can readily be detached from the head, so that when one brush is worn out a new one can be put in its place, or it can be detached at any time and used as a hand-brush.
Fig. l is aside view of the upper part of the brush or head A, that is of a suitable form and size, to the middle of which the handle A is attached, and along one side is secured a rubber, B.
G, Fig. 2, is the lower part of the brush or back, to which the bristles, sea-root, or other material for making the brush, is secured in the ordinary manner.
Through the back and head of the brush, at each end, are holes, as indicated by the dotted lines b', that come directly opposite each other when the back is placed up against the head. In these holes are put screw-bolts b, that have a head, c, on the lower end, and the upper ends project above the head, and on them are screwed thumb-screws d, whereby the back or bottom is held in 'firm close contact with the head. The brush being thus connected to the head, it can at any time be readily detached from it by unscrewing the screws d, so that when one brush is worn out a new one can readily be put in its place.
The head A and handle A' of 'the brush, when made of hard wood, will last a long time and wear out a number of brushes, so that by this means the expense of brushes is greatly lessened.
rlhe brush can most easily be taken apart at any time, and the lower or bottom part, C,
used for an ordinary hand-brush.
What I claim as my improvement, and de sire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The removable back or brush C, in combination with the head A and screw-bolts, in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
` B. FIGER.
