BOOT-BLACKING CASE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,11 l, dated March 1 1866.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, EDWARD S. CARTER, of Keokuk, in the'county of Lee and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Pocket Boot-Blacking Case; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying` drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a side elevation of 1n y invention. The object of my invention is to provide a compact and convenient boot-blackin case intended especially for travelers use; and my invention consists in a case containing a box of blacking and a blacking and a polishing brush, constructed so that the brushes may be afxed to the outside of the case, and thus the case itself made to serve the purpose of a handle to the brushes.
A designates a metallic case, which is round in transverse sections inthe present instance, but may be of any desired shape. It is provided at one or both ends with a cover, a.
B B designate the blacking and polishing brushes respectively. These are of a size to permit of their being put inside the case A.
C is a box of blacking, also of a size to allow of its being placed within the case A.
Each of these brushes B B have a screw thread, b, cut into the block or head, and this is intended to be screwed upon a screw-pin, D, secured to the outside ofthe box, as is shown clearly in red in Fig. 2 but any other means may be adopted for temporarily securing the brushes B B to thecase.
The invention produces a neat and small case which can be carried in a gentlemans pocket, and it will be found ot great use to travelers and those who desire to have their blacking brushes and box in as compact a form 'as possible for transportation. l
