WITNESSES. NVENTOR;
UNITED STATES FREDERICK A. HovEY, oF ATHENS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOILET-CASES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,564, dated July 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK A. HovEY, of Athens, Ain the county ot' Greene and State of New York, have invented a new a-nd valuable Improvement in a Combination Toilet- Gase; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawing` making a part of this specication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a sectional view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my invention when open.
This invention has relation to the combination of a hair-brush, hat-brush, mirror, and comb; and the novelty consists in the construction of the brush-handle and case,`and the arrangement of the parts essential to the combination, all as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents the hair-brush, B, the back thereof; and C, the handle and case combined, hinged to the back at G. The parts B C are of like contour, and may be of the taperin g form shown, or otherwise. The part C is constructed with a raised rim, D, which, when the parts B G are closed together, receives and protects the bristles A. The part B is cut out around its edge, as at e, to receive the edge of the rim D, and thus render the sides ofthe two parts B and C ush and even. To provide for the proper length of the bristles and their reception in the case, the parts A B C are cut out below the hinge-seats b, as shown. The ends of the rim D tit or coincide with the shoulders d when the parts are closed up. WVhen the parts are opened out the ends come together and are secured by the spring-catohes g g. At E E the parts B C are recessed 1ongitudinally for the purpose of holding, respectively, a mirror, F, and a comb, F. The back of the mirror and the mouth of the recess E are correspondingly notched, as at G G, so that the thumb-nail may be applied for the withdrawal of the mirror. For a like purpose the comb is furnished with a ring, H. To the back of the part C is attached a piece of plush, K, for use as a hat-brush. The plush covers the top of the recess containing the catch g, so that by pressing down on the former the catch may be released. When the parts A B are closed they are secured by the hook and loop at I.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The part B, havingthebrush'A and pocket E to receive the sliding mirror F, in combination with the hinged handle C having the rim D, plush back K, and pocket E to receive the sliding comb F', substantially as specied.
2. The brush A and catch g', in combination withthe hinged handle C having the rim D and catch g, all arranged substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK A. HOVEY.
