Description

E- HISS.
Paint Brush. I
No. 56,750. Patehted July 31 1866.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMIL HISS, or DELAWARE, OHIO.
IMPROVED PAINT-BRUSH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,750. dated J y 1866- tion thereof. reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification.
The material A, of which the brush is composed, whether of hair, bristles, or any other substance that may be used for the purpose, is placed around the end of the stock or handle B, and then encompassed by a draw-band, O. This draw-band is contracted in the ordinary manner, by a screw-bolt and nut, or by ath umbscrew, and is so constructed as to completely surround the head of the brush, one end, a, passing inside of the other and being reduced to a thin edge, so that it shall always be between the material of the brush and the inner surface of the other end of the draw-band as it is contracted.
The advantages to be derived from this method of constructing brushes are numerous, and among them may be mentioned the facility with which the brush may be tightened on the stock when it works loose, which any brush is liable to do when used vigorously and for any great length of time, the brush secured in the ordinary manner, by winding, becoming worthless when this happens; also, the person using the brush may, whenever the hair or bristles are worn down so as to be unfit for further use, remove them and adapt new material to the stock or handle, thus making a new brush.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A paint-brush provided with an adjustable draw-band, O, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
To the above specification of an improved paint-brush I have signed my hand this 19th day of June, 1866.
