UNITED STATES FATENT @FFICE.
JOHN BISSELL, OF NEWY YORK, N. Y.
TROUSERS-BELT.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 684,345, dated October 1901' Application filed February 4, 1901. serial No. 45,881. (No model.)
To all whom it ntay concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN BISSELL, a citi: zen of the United States, residing at No. 467 West End avenue, in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trousers-Belts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The object of my invention is to provide simple, convenient, and efficient means for attaching the waistbands of trousers to leather and other belts without or in addition to the usual trousers-loops, so that the trousers, and particularly the back portion thereof, will not slip below the belt. To this end I provide the belt at the back with a pair of eyes or loops, through which are passed from the inside the buckle and free ends, respectively, of the ordinary trousers-strap, which is then buckled on the outside of the belt between the eyes or loops, so as to firmly and yet easily and neatly attach'the belt to the waistband of the trousers.
In order that my invention may be clearly understood, I shall first describe in detail the mode in which I carry the invention into practice and then particularly claim the same.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which the same parts are designated by like numbers in both the figures.
Figure 1 represents the application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my improved belt.
In practice I provide the belt 2, which may be an ordinary leather belt or of any other belt 2, and thus securely and neatly attach 5 the belt to the waistband of the trousers and prevent the trousers from slipping down below the belt.
I prefer to make the eyes or loops 3 of metal rectangular rings, secured by stitching to the several sections of the belt, as shown.' The belt being thus made of short sections can be produced from smaller pieces or scraps of material than the ordinary belt, and can thus be made cheaper than the ordinary belt.
By this simple invention the usual trousers loops are rendered unnecessary and their ex= pense thus saved, although my belt may be used in conjuncture with the loops, if desired, to better sustain the back of the trousers.
Having" thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-= A belt provided at its back with a pair of eyes or loops of a size and in a position to receive the respective ends of the trousers back strap, which is fastened outside and between the same.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand the 3d day of October, 1900.
JOHN BISSELL.
In presence of- DAVID G. Boon, CLARENCE L. BURGER.
