Description

F. C. FANE.
COMBINATION BELT AND SUSPENDERS.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 8, I918.

t CON FAKE, 0F EL'MSFORD, NEW YORK.
COMBHIATION BELT 'SUSPENDEBS..
Specification of Letters Patent.
racem s July a, rare.
Application filed April 8, 1918. Serial No. 227,320. 7
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK CARsoN FANE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the town of-Elmsford, in the State of New York, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Combination Belts and Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
. This invention relates to improvements in combination belts and suspenders, and the objects of the invention are to provide a simple and efiective belt which may be readily attached to the trousers and which will also form an attaching means for suspenders.
Further objects are to efiectively support the trousers by such a device and hold the waist band neatly and firmly in position, and it consists essentially of the improved construction hereinafter described in detail in the accompanying specification and drawings forming part of the same In the drawings;
Figure l is a perspective view of the inventionshowing. the same on the top of a pair of trousers.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the belt shown, separately.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the belt open.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing additional clampmg means which may be employed if desired.
Fi 5 is a perspective view showing a suita le clasp/for the ends of these suspenders.
ln the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the belt formed of an outer section 10 and an inner section 11 adapted between them to embrace the waist band of the trousers being held against this waist band by suitable Clamping means.
In Fig. 3, I have shown a spring hinge device 12 connecting the sections 10 and 11 and having a spring hinge 13 by which the plates 14 and 15 are clamped together, which said plates may have engaging projections 16 therein to enable them to better grip the waist band of the trousers.
Additional clamping means may, if de sired be provided on the outside in the form of clamping plates 18 and 19 connected by a spring hinge 20.
A suitable buckle 17 may be provided on the end of the outer section 10.
To enable the suspenders to be connected to the trousers through the belt, the belt is provided at intervals with engaging eyes or loops 21 conveniently formed of metal and secured to the belt. These eyes are adapted to receive suitable engaging hooks 22 on the suspenders B, the latter being of any suitable design.
A safety pocket 23 may if desired be suspended from the inner section 11 of the belt.
it will be seen that the present invention provides a simple and convenient device by which the trousers or pantaloons may be supported without buttons or other fastening means on the trousers.
A device of this kind is of special use on active military service, where suspenders or buttons are not easily replaced.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention within the scope of the claims may be constructed without departing from the spirit or-scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
' 1. A belt of the character described comprising an inner andouter section folded one upon the other, means for clampin the sections together, upon the edge of t e article;
to be supported.
2. A belt comprising an inner and outer section, a pocket on the outer section, clamping means between the two sections COIIIPIIS- ing plates, and a spring hinge connecting the plates, a plurality of ugs extending at intervals on the upper edge of the belt.
3. A belt comprising an inner and outer section, a pocket on the outer section, clamping means between the two sections comprising plates, and a spring hinge connecting the plates, a plurality of lugs'extending at intervals on the upper edge of the belt, and suspenders havinghooks to,engage the eyes.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
FRANK CARSON FANE.
