Description

J. G. FEHLER.
DUPLEX DOUBLE PRONGED PIN. APPLICATION Fug'o JULY 24.19l5- 1 ,200.,417. Patented 001;. 3, 1916.

DUPLEX DOUBLE-PRONGED PIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1916.
Application filed July 24, 1915. Serial No. 41,707.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. FEHLER, a native born citizen of the United States, residing at Montesano, in the county of Chehalis and State of Washington, have invented. new and useful Improvements in DuplexDouble-Pronged Pins, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to garment fasteners, and more particularly to the class of 'duplex double pronged pins.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein several articles of wearing apparel can be conveniently and securely fastened together, such for example, as drawers and shirt, so that the same will be prevented from separating at the waist line of the user, or the drawers dropping from the waist line, as is usual when not held fast by suspenders.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device wherein the pin points thereof are shielded so as to prevent injury to the user when the device is applied to the garments.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein the construction thereof is of novel form to enable the quick engagement of the same with the garments, and which will be prevented from accidentally freeing the garments when connecting the same.
A still further object of the invention is the pro-vision of a clasp of this character which is simple in construction, reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is an edge-elevation of the clasp constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 .is ai plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a similar view looking toward the opposite side of the clasp. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through the clasp applied to garments.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for Referring to the drawing in detail, the clasp comprises an elongated plate 5, forming the base, preferably made from metal, provided at opposite ends and on reverse sides of the same with guards 6, which are cut and bent from the plate, and are formed with center notches 7 to afford entrances to the guards for the double tines 8 of the pin frames 9, having loop ends 10 at right angles to the tines 8 and loosely engaged in pintle sleeves 11 formed in the guards for swingingly connecting the pin frames thereto.
The tines 8 are resilient and are normally disposed in outwardly divergent relation to each other for the snapping engagement of the same in the guards 6 after they have been passed through the garments to be secured together, the tines being pointed for permitting the easy penetration of the tines in the material of the garments, although it is preferable to mount a button A upon one garment and engage one pin frame therewith, as shown, while the other pin frame is engaged in the other garment, yet it may be desirable to engage the respective pin frames in the several garments thereby dispensing'with the button on one of the same.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of use of the device will be clearly understood, and thereforeia more extended explanation has been omitted.
. What is claimed is In a device of the class described, a plate comprising a blank reversely bent at opposite ends to form eyes and guards at opposite sides of the said blank, the said guards being formed with V-shaped notches opening through the free edges thereof medially of the same, and U-shaped members loosely engaged in the eyes and forming duplex resilient pins adapted to be passed through the notches for locking engagement in the guards, the closed ends of the members being bent at right angles to the duplex lIlS.
P In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of twowitnesses.
