Description

PATBNTED MAY 12, 1908. E. O. FISHER.
COMBINED BELT PIN AND CLASP. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 15, 1005.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMMA G. FISHER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED BELT PIN AND CLASP.
Application filed November 15, 1905.
' Pin and C asp, of which the following is a specification.
My invention pertains to pins and clasps and it has special reference to that type of inventions by means of which belts, collars or the like are attached to the body garments.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an ornamental and useful device that will be simple in construction, yet capable of fully performing the function for which it is designed, and one that can be readily manufactured at slight cost.
A further object is to provide a pin for engagement with a body garment, a holder for the pin, and an ornamental shield to which I the holder is pivoted, the said holder and ornamental shield being arranged so that the article of apparel that is to be held in position may be clasped between said holder and said ornamental shield.
Other and further objects of the invention consist in certain details of construction and combination of parts, described in detail in the following description, pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the said drawings, in which like characters of reference refer to corresponding arts-Figure l is a perspective view of the combined pin and clasp showing the rear side with the pin and pin holder disengaged. Fig. 2 is a rear view with the pin andpin holder in position. Fig. 3 is a front view, the invention being applied to a belt for a long front waist. Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the invention applied to a collar. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of the invention. Fig. 6 is an edge view of the device.
In constructing my invention I provide a front ornamental plate or body 8, which may be of any suitable shape and of any desired ornamentation. To the edge of this I hinge one end of a flat bar 9, designated herein as a pin holder. This holder has at its opposite end a headed projection 10, and the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1908.
Serial No. 287,496.
plate or body 8 is provided with portions 11 formed by slitting and pressing the metal of the plate or body 8 backward, between which portion 11 the headed projection enters and is held when the ornamental plate or body is turned against the pin holder.
The inner surface of the ornamental plate a or body 8 and opposed surface of the pin holder are provided with points 12, which serve to hold, by frictional contact, the belt, collar or the like 13, within its place between said body and the pin holder.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 5, the pinholder is provided with a hook 14: to receive the cord 14 or the like; said cord being shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, which is placed around the waist before the belt is applied.
As shown in Fig. 3, the belt 13 is lapped substantially at right angles, so that the body of the belt passes down between the pin holder and the plate or body 8. On the pin holder is a pin 15 and a keeper 15 therefor.
In Fig. 5 I show a pin holder 9, hinged at one end to the shield, and a modified pin 16 which is attached to the pin holder midway between its ends and at right angles thereto. It may be soldered or otherwise attached. I prefer an ordinary safety pin for this purpose.
In practice the pin 15 is applied preferably in ahorizontal position crosswise to the waist, as shown, after which the belt or collar is lapped on the pin holder so that when the body is sprung into position, the belt or collar is held securely between the holder and the body.
The invention is susceptible of various applications, such for instance as in connection with what is known as the lapped belts to form the long front effect. In such cases the pin proper may be applied through the skirt in front at the waist line and fastened and after the belt has been adjusted, the lapped portions may be cast between the pin holder and the body. Another use of the invention may be in connection with collars that are fastened to the waist at their back. In such case the pin would be passed through the waist, and the collar clasped to the pin holder.
I claim as my invention A device for the purpose described, comprising a body having a fastener member, a bar hinged to the body and equipped with a hook arranged to receive a waist cord and ex- In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature tending in a direction away from the body: in presence of two Witnesses. said bar also being equipped with a fastener member arranged to cooperate with the fas- EMMA FISHER 5 tener member of the body in detaohablyhold- Witnesses:
