2 Claims.
The present invention relates to garment holding devices or lingerie pins, and consists in the combinations and arrangements of elements hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the accompanying claims. v
The invention has for its purpose to provide a device of this character comprising a pin adapted to be attached to an outer garment and having a clasp designed to hold in place the supporting it) strap of an under garment, the whole being of such construction and size as to be conveniently Worn on the shoulder and at all times wholly concealed from view.
The invention is especially designed for holding against displacement the supporting straps of lin.
gerie and yet permitting these straps to have normal freedom of movement on the shoulder, and which in use will lay fiat on the shoulder and be quite free from any discomfort or'inconvenience on the part of the wearer.
The invention is shown by way of illustration in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 shows the device in applied position. Figure 2 is a perspective view of the article detached.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detailed view of the pin fastening feature.
Figure 5 is a perspective view showing a modified form, and
Figure 6 a transverse sectional view taken on the line 6--6 of Figure 1.
The device comprises essentially a single metallic strip which is reversely folded and bent upon itself to provide a clasp for holding in place the straps of an under garment, and a pin for attachment to an outer garment, said folded and bent portions giving to the article the desired resiliency and providing a guard and engagement for the point of the fastening pin.
Referring to the construction in further detail and wherein like reference characters designate 4r corresponding parts the different figures shown, 0 the lingerie pin consists of two relatively long clasp portions 6 and I having a connecting portion 8 bent in such manner that the desired resiliency is imparted-thereto, and said portions 6 and 7 remain normally separated or in substantially the relation shown in Figure 2. The free end 9 of the lower clasp portion I is shaped to provide a clip that engages with the corresponding bent portion ID of member 6 and thereby said parts 9 and I0 provide an effective means for holding the clasp members in closed position as shown in Figure 3.
The supporting straps II of the lingerie are adapted to engage between and be held by the clasp members 6 and 'I as shown, and'to the end that said straps may have the necessary ease or freedom of movement on the shoulder, the clasp member 6 is formed with an indenture or slightly off-set portion I2 as shown. Thus a space or clearance between the clasp elements is pro- Vided when said parts are closed or in clamped relation as shown in Figure 3.
The article is adapted to be fastened to the shoulder seams S of the outer garment I3 by means of a pin I4 which is formed continuous with the member 6, and the connection between said pin and the portion 6 is designed to provide a spring element I5 whereby the point I6 of the pin will be held in engagement with a suitable fastening element or detent and guard I! that is formed from the overlapping portions 8 as shown in Figure 4. The folded portion I1 is shaped aftter the manner of an inverted V at I8 to hold the pin in closed position.
In the construction shown in Figure 5 the elements and their operative functions are the same as described above, excepting that in this instance the pin portion I4 connects with the element 6 of the clasp by a reduced and fiat metal portion I9, without the coil spring feature I5 as above, and in this construction said portions 9 and I9 are adapted to engage and effectively hold the lingerie strap between the clip members but allow the same freedom of movement therein. A further modification in this instance is that the clasp member 6 has a slightly curved portion 20, as distinct from the offset portion I2, to provide the necessary clearance or opening for the lingerie strap as will be understood.
It will therefore be seen that there is provided a novel and combine-d lingerie pin and clasp that may be conveniently applied to the wearers shoulder, will stay in lay-flat position thereon, and will effectively hold the lingerie strap from displacement but allow entire freedom of sliding movement thereof. It will also be observed that the article may be manufactured from one and the same piece and is of appreciably light weight and simple design.
It will be further understood the invention as herein disclosed is not limited to the details of construction shown and described, and that these may be varied widelywithout departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the claims.
What is claimed as new is:
1. An article of the character described comprising a flat metallic strip folded upon itself to provide a pair of clasp portions with an elongated space therebetween for slidably holding a garment supporting strap, the free ends of said clasp portions being similarly bent to engage with each other and provide a securing device for holding said portions in clasped relation, a fastening pin formed continuous with one of said clasp members, and the folded parts of both clasp portions being bent to provide a detent and guard for the point of the pin, substantially as set forth.
2. An article of the character described comprising a fiat metallic strip folded upon itself to provide a pair of clasp portions with an elongated space therebetween for slidably holding a garment supporting strap, the free ends of said clasp portions being similarly bent to engage with each other and provide a securing device for holding said portions in clasped relation, a fastening pin formed continuous with one of said clasp members, and the folded parts of both clasp portions being bent to provide a detent and guard for the point of the pin, the two clasp portions and the pin being alternately disposed and substantially coextensive in length and when in closed relation providing a. unitary and compact article, the whole being formed from one piece, substantially as set forth.
