UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE OBO'UOH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CARTRIDGE-BELT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,363, dated June 28, 1881.
Application led May 8, 187B.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE GRoUcH, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use Improvements in the Construction of Cartridge-Belts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
making part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is afront view of my improved cartridge-belt. Fig. 2 is a section of the same through the line w of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a section of the same through the line y y of Fig. 1. Y
In the drawings, like parts of the invention are indicated by the same letters ot' reference.
This invention relates to leather cartridgeholders; and it consists in the combination of a belt with two sheets which have an undulating shape, and are fastened together face to face, so as to form a series of pockets, as hereinafter set forth.
To enable those skilled in the arts to make and use my invention, I will describe the same.
A designates a belt, of leather or other ilexible material, which is provided at one end with buckles and at the other end with straps B2 O2, for fastening it around the wearers waist in the usual manner. To this belt is fastened a sheet or strip, A', of leather or other suitable material, whichA is stamped or otherwise shaped into a series of undulations, as shown in Fig. 2, each concavity therein forming the rear part of a cartridge-pocket, and B designates a front sheet of similar material stamped so as to leave a series of larger undulations corresponding in position to those abovementioned, and forming the front parts ofthe cartridge-pockets. The several parts ot' the cartridge-holdin g belt' are secured together by 4o sewing through them at or near 'the edges ot' sheet B, and preferably, also, on the lines a a. As shown in Fig. 3, the lower part of the material of sheet A ris bent outward at a into the lower end of each pocket, and the correspond- 45 ing part of sheet B is rounded in at b. The said belt is provided with the usual eyeleted covering-flaps, C, which extend over the cartridge-pockets, and are fastened to studs c in the ordinary manner. These, of course, I do 5o not claim.
It will be seen that the cartridge-pockets are composed oftwo reversely-curved sheets, which are brought face to face. They are more easily manufactured than a series of pockets bent or 55 formed by bending a single sheet at short intervals till-it meets. Furthermore, in case the outer sheet becomes injured, the inner will still remain intact and be serviceable with a new outer sheet.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a cartridge-holder, the combination of belt A with sheets A and B, said sheets be- 65 in g stamped into an undulating shape and fastened together face to face, so as to form a series'of pockets, substantially as set forth.
GEORGE OROUOH.
