Description
NANCY I. HA NC'HETTE.
ABDOMINAL SUPPORTER.
N0.183,923. Patented Oct.31,1876.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
NANCY J. HANCHETTE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPRQVEMENT IN ABDOMINAL SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183.923, dated October 31, 1876; application filed August 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NANCY J. HANOHETTE, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Supporters and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to abdominal supporters and other supporting devices which are worn in close contact with the person; and the invention consists in making such supporters of wire-gauze bound around the edges with soft thick binding, and furnished with suitable straps or braces for securing them in place.
The advantages resulting from the use of my improved support are, that it permits of free ventilation, so much so that the disagreeable sensation of heat consequent on the use of such devices of ordinary construction is entirely obviated. It is also very light and, being flexible, adjusts itself to the movement of the body, so that it is not at all uncomfortable to wear, and, there being no unyielding portion, it cannot injure the wearer by unusual pressure on any part of the device. It can also be produced very economically, there by bringing a very useful device within the reach of many who cannot afford to use the more expensive supports heretofore in use.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of an abdominal supporter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section of the same.
Referring to the parts by letters, A represents an abdominal supporter made of two thicknesses of fine wire-gauze, united and held together by a binding of thick soft material, a, said binding extending around the outer edges of the wire-gauze, as clearly shown in the drawings. B is a strap secured to one end of the support, and C is a buckle secured to the opposite end, said buckle and strap being the means employed for securing the supporter in proper position. Any of the wellknown descriptions of braces or straps in use for securing these supporting devices in position may be used, and the supporter itself may be made of any convenient or desirable form, as I do not desire to limitmyself to supports of any particular form.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein described supporting device, made of wire-gauze bound around the edges as described, and provided with suitable straps or other devices for securing the same to the person, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NANCY J. HANOHETTE. Witnesses:
M. A. CHENY, E. B. GRLFFITH.
