To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALANSON D.WINTERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bombay, in the county of Franklin and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Truss, of which the following is a specifica-- tion, reference being had to the accompany ing drawings.

This invention relates to trusses; and it has forits object to provide a device of this character which will be adjustable, so that the pad may be set at any angle desired, and thus be of greater ease and comfort to the wearer, while enabling the rupture to be kept under control.

With these and other objects in view the said invention consists in certain details of construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the application of my improved truss. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the truss, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 9000, Fig. 4. Big. 4 is a transverse section on the line y a, Fig. 3.

Like letters refer to corresponding parts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates the truss-pad, comprising a rigid back piece, B, of oval or other suitable form, and having its edges bent inward to form a flange, a, and a soft filling, 0, held against the back piece by a covering,.G, of chamois-skin, a binding, D, passing around the pad over the covering and holding the same against the flange a. It will be seen that the covering holds the filling firmly in place and presents a convex surface to bear against the affected part, the material used being such as to make the pad safe and easy to the wearer in every respect. However, I do not limit myself to the use of any particular form or material, as such may be varied to suit the taste and fancy of the maker, and to suit the various uses to which truss-pads are applied.

E designates the waistband, passing through aloop, F, secured to the front or outer face of the pad, and secured/at any suitable point in said loop against the pad by means of a rivet, e, or other fastening means, the said waistband being preferably constructed of some suitable one of the holes to provide for various degrees of adjustment. It will be seen that the buckle is attached to the waistband by means of an independent strap, I, which secured to the outer faces of said band, the latter being in: terposed between the buckle and the body of the wearer, so as to obviate chafing.

J J designate supplemental supporting straps, each secured at one end by a stud or pin, K, to the lower end of the pad, and eX- tending diagonally or obliquely, and formed with a series of holes to receive the tongues of buckles L L, attached to the waistband on each side of the pad by means of small straps M M. As will be observed, the waistband is inten posed between the buckles L and the body of the wearer, so as to prevent chafing, while the supplemental straps may be adjusted in length,

so as to incline the pad more in one direction than the other, and hold it in this degree of inclination.

N designates the crotchband, consibting ofthe main section 0, of elastic webbing, the looped section P clasping the waistband sliding freely along the same, and the adjustingstrap Q,provided' with series of holes, 1", anyone of which is adapted to be engaged by the headed pin or stud K at the lower end of the pad, so as to adjust the crotch-band.

The operation of my invention will be read ily understood from the foregoing description, takenin connection with theannexed drawings.

In applying my improved truss, the pad is placed directly on the affected part, the waist band passed around the body and connected together, the crotchband connected to the headed pin or stud K, and the supplemental straps attached to the waistband. In this manner the pad will be held in position from all sides, the waistband preventing downward movement, the crotch-band holding the pad from upward movement, while the supplemental straps obviate all danger of lateral movement of the lower end of the said pad.

It will be seen that allthe bands and straps are adjustable in length, so that the position of the pad may be varied in position and inclination and held in the adjusted position.

' By the construction shown there will be no danger of the buckles or other parts chafing the body of the wearer while in use, and the elasticity of the bands enables the truss to be held tightly in position.

It will be apparent that by making the truss adjustable in length the pad can be set at any angle desired, this feature being of the greatest importance for ease and comfort to the wearer and safety in controlling the rupture.

My improved truss is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and will prove of great utility for the purposes intended.

Having described my invention, I claim In a truss, the combination,with the pad, of the waistband, crotch-band, and the supplemental connecting-straps extending from the pad to the waistband, said straps and bands 20 being adjustable in length, so that the pad may be set at any angle desired, as and for the purpose set forth.
