JOHN ORONIN, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
TRUSS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 311,570, dated February 3, 1885.
Application tiled September 25, 1884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN CRONIN, of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trusses: and I do here by declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has for its object to provide an improved and simplified construction of trusses, whereby the same will be reliable and efficient in service, and capable of an easy and ready adjustment; and it consists, essentially, in the details of construction and gen eral arrangement of parts, all as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying "drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improvements as applied in position; Fig. 2, a siinilar view of the same as disconnected from the body, and Fig. 3 a detail sectional view of the same.
Similar letters of reference occurring on the several figures indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the metallic plate, to which the pads B are adapted to be adjustably secured, the ends of said plate being enlarged, so as to provide a small projection, a, at right angles to the body of the plate, as shown. The pads B are preferably made ofred-cedar wood, highly polished, and of a shape not unlike the half of an egg through its extreme length. These pads B are secured to the plate A, one at each end, by means of the screws 0 in such manner that the said pads may be turned around and held at any desired position. The plate A is slightly curved to conform to the shape of the body of the wearer, over which it extends in a horizontal position, the ends of the plate being provided With three metallic studs or buttons, 1), c, and d, riveted thereto, as shown.
D represents the belt, made preferably of (No model.)
sail-cloth covered with silk, and provided at each end with two suitable buckles, e e, and small leather straps f 9, provided with buttonholes at their lower ends, as shown. The strap D is adapted to fit around the body above the hips, the straps f being buttoned to the studs d, and the straps g to the studs b on each end of the plate A, as fully shown in Fig. 1.
E represents a bag or pouclnt'ormed of rubber, canvas covered with silk, or of other suitable material, which is adapted to receive and support the testicles, said bag'or pouch being secured at its sides to the narrow elongated bands or straps h h, both ends of which are provided with a series of button-holes, t, as i'ully shown in Fig. 2. The rear ends of these straps ll 7; are attached to buttons on the rear ot the belt D, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, while the front ends of said straps are buttoned over the studs 0 on the metallic plate A, said straps passing under the thighs from the rear to the front of the body, as shown in Fig. 1. The belt D, the metallic plate A,carrying the pads B, and the bag or pouch E, can be readily and easily adjusted to conform to the body of the wearer by means of the smaller straps, the pressure being regulated and distributed over the entire construction, thereby rendering the same easy and comfortable to the wearer, and at the same time. being efficient and reliable in use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is In a truss, the belt D, provided at each end with the buckles e c and straps fg, in combination with the metallic plate A, having projections a at each end, and provided with the pads B, adjustable thereon by means of the screws 0, and metallic studs 1), c, and d, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of Witnesses:
GEORGE E. RICE, J r., RICHARD BRODERICK.
