Description

No. 689,822. Patented Dec. 24, 1901. A. .1. KOCH.
SUSPENDERS.
(Application filed Mar. 23, 1901.
(No Model.)
WITNESSES: INVENTOR' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
ALFRED J. noon, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 689,822, dated December 24, 1901.
Application filed March 23, 1901. Serial No. 52,489. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALFRED J. KOCH, a citi zen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to suspenders; and the object thereof is. to provide ordinary trousers-suspenders with detachable and insertible back members composed of interlaced parts which are detachable and which adjust themselves to various positions of the body; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists of a pair of suspenders provided with interlaced back members constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure lis a back view of a back portion of a pair of suspenders provided with myim provement; Fig. 2, an edge view of one part of a pair of suspenders, showing the construction which I employ; and Fig. 3,a similar view showing a modification.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at 5 the shoulder-straps of a pair of suspenders and at 5 the lower end portions of said straps and with which the buttonhole-tabs 6 are connected and the shoulder-straps 5 of the suspenders and the lower portions 5 thereof are connected by my improved interlaced slidable attachment. This attachment consists of intervening members 8, by which the parts 5 and 6 of the separate shoulder-straps are connected, and these intervening members 8 are each composed of two separate straps 8 of suitable flexible material, preferably of the same material as that from which the straps of the suspenders are formed, and said straps 8 of'each ofthe intervening members 8 are interlaced, as shown in Fig.1, and are free to slide back and forth and to move up and down without being disconnected.
In connecting the intervening members 8 withthe straps of the suspenders I prefer to employ means whereby said connections may be made both adjustable and detachable. In the drawings I have shown the said intervening members 8 connected with the parts 5 of the suspenderstrap, as shown at 9, by means of ordinary clamp-buckles 10, through which the parts 5 of the Suspender-straps are passed and with which the parts 8 of the intervening members are connected.
The connection of the intervening members 8 with the parts 5 of the Suspender-straps is made, as shown at 11, by means of ordinary detachable buckles composed of two parts 12 and 13, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the part 12 of the bucklebeing secured to the part 5 of the shoulder-strap and the detach able portion 13 of the buckle being secured to this construction I provide a pair of suspenders the straps of which are adj ustably and slid ably connected at the back and free to slide one upon another. I also provide means whereby the straps of the suspenders may be shortened at the back whenever desired, and, if preferred, ordinary buckles may be used at both ends of the intervening members 8, whereby the connection with the parts 5 and 5 of the suspender-straps may be made.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A pair of suspenders comprising a pair of straps, which are divided where they cross at the back so as to form main portions and end portions, and a detachable back member composed of two parts consisting of interlaced strips, said parts being free to slide one upon another and being provided at one end with fastening devices by means of which they may be detachably connected with the main portion of the Suspender-straps, and at the I ence of the subscribing witnesses, this 21st opposite end with fastening devices by means day of March, 1901.
of which they may be detachably connected with the end portions of the Suspender-strap, ALFRED C 5 substantially as shown and described. Witnesses:
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as T. A. STEWART, my invention I have signed my name, in pres- L. R. BAYER.
