BROOKS, of Wolcottville, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and useful Improvement in Bucklesgnand we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being "had to the annexed drawings, making part ot' this speeication, wherein- Figure l represents the frame of the buckle. Fig. 2 is a view of the buckle complete, and Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the wire tongue separately.
Similar niarks of' reference denote the saine parts.
The frames of buckles have heretofore been made ot wire bent to the proper shape and then tlattened at certain portions by means ot dies.
The nature of our said invention consists in a btlcl;le-fra1ne formed with a double bend in cach side between the main portion ot' the frame and the loop, and which bend forms the bar or axis for the tongue to swing upon, and we combine therewith a tongueformed of wire with eyes around the said axis in the doublev bend ot' the frame.
In the drawings, a is the main portion of the buckle-frame, and b is the loop forming the part for the attachment of the strap. These are made ofone piece ot' wire, bent into the shape shown in Fig. 1, with the double bends in each side, and the frame is stiened by being Hat-tened at portions, such as the top of the main part a.
At the parts c c in the double bends of the fra-me the wire is to be left round, so as to form the axis or bar for the tongue d. The tongue d is to be properly shaped so as to be attached at the parts c c of the frame, and we prefer and use a wire tongue, such as shown in Fig. 3, wherein the eyes c c are bent up to set around the axis c c, and said eyes are connected by the wire extending from one to the other, as at t'.
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The buckle-frame formed with double bends in the sides between the main portion and the loop, one portion of' said double bend at each side ot the frame, forming the axis for the tongue, substantially as specified.
2. The wire tongue formed with eyes connected by the central portion of the wire, in combination with the aforesaid buckle-frame havin g double bends in its sides, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our signatures this 23d day of April, A. D. 1866.
