Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE HENRY C. GRIGGS, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO SMITH 86 GRIGGS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 57,632, dated August 28, 1866.
To all whom if 'may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. Games, of the city of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State ot'Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description ot' the construction, character, and operation of thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, Which make part of this speciticatioinin Which- Figure l is a perspective view ofthe buckle complete. Fig. 2 is a. perspective view of the frame of the buckle Without the tongues; Fig. 3, a perspective view of the tongues as ready to be attached to the frame. Fig. et is a perspective view of the tongues as when set in the frame, but detached.
My improvement consists in making the frame of the buckle, of one piece ot' wire or sheet metal, in such a form that it Will make both a complete bow and loop, and the two tongues ofone piece of wire, and then secure the tongues to the frame by simply bending or setting the Wire of the tongues to its position, so that it will retain its place Without any other fastening.
I make the frame containing both the bow A and loop B of one piece ot' Wire by swaging or bending it to the form or shape substantially as shown in Figs. l and 2, so that it will receive the tongue part in the bends at a and b, Figs. l and 2, so as to allow the buckle to lie entirely iiat on its reverse side; or, I cut it from a piece of sheet metal and raise or swage it to substantially the saine shape as before described, so that it will receive the tongue part in the same manner.
I make the tongue part of one pir-ce of wire, substantially in the form shown in Fig. 3, and, having passed it into the frame through the bends a and b, l set it to the shape shown iii Fig. 4, when the whole will appear as shown in Fig. l, and the buckle Will be complete.
What. I claim as niy invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The coinbiuationof the frame part with the tongue part, when they are constructed, connected, and iitted cooperate substantially as herein described and sct forth.
HENRY C. GRIGGS.
