lVlPRGVED SPRING-LEVER CLASP.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,67l1, dated April 3, 1866.
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, GUsTAVUs D. PIKE, of Chatham, in the county of Middlesex, State of Connecticut, have invented ea new Spring- -Lever Clasp as a Substitute for a Buckle;
and I do hereby declare that the following is afull and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a clasp with a spring-lever that shuts between ears upon a strap, and thereby pressingthe strap to the body ofthe clasp and X ing` it permanently.
The clasp is constructed as follows, and consists ot' two parts.
Figure l represents the body of the clasp. a represents the strap-hole in the body of the clasp. b b represent where the spring-lever is attached to the body of the clasp. c c represent where the strap is riveted to the body of the clasp. d d represent the ears with shoulders that admit the spring-lever beneath them to press the strap upon the body of the clasp. c e @represent teeth in the body of the clasp, upon which the strap is pressed by the springlever.

Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The employment of the spring-lever 2, and the ears el d, and the teeth c e e, or their equivalents, combined with the strap-hole aand the riveting of clasp to strap, for the purposes specified.
