Description
UNiTED sTATEs PATENT oEEIoE.
ANDREW DIETZ, OE" NEW YORK, N. Y.
RING FOR HARNESS, 86o.
Speccation of Letters Patent No. 7,259, dated April 9, 1850.
To all 'whom/@'15 may concern.'
Be it known that I, ANDREW DIETZ, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a ring to be applied to straps for harness or to any other purpose for which it may be suitable; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact vdescription of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l, is a front view of a ring and staple having a sliding bar` and guide attached; Fig. 2, is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3, is a front view of a ring having two sliding bars attached. Fig. 4, is a detached view of a sliding bar with a guide or guard bar. Fig. 5, represents a sliding bar without a guide or guard bar.
The same letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several iigures. y
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of a sliding bar, or sliding bars with a ring used in connection with straps for harness or for various other purposes; the object of which is to prevent the cutting or wearing through of the straps by their friction on the ring, and also to allow the strap to move more freely around the ring. y To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will 4proceed to describe its construct-ion and use.
A, (represented in Figs. 1, 2 and 3,) is a cylinder formed ring of any suitable metal. B, B, (Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4) are sliding bars of metal having their ends of concave form to t the shape of the inner part of the ring A, each having a projecting lap a, bent over the outside of the ring'v to keep the sliding b ar in its proper position to slide around the inner edge of the ring and also having a guide or guard bar 5, to keep the strap lfrom slipping from its place-on the sliding C (Fig. 5) represents a sli-ding barwithout a guide or guard bar; it is formed of a bar of metal, having a Aconcave groove tting to the inside of the ring to which it is applied.
D, is a staple attached to the ring A, (Fignl) having a single sliding bar, for the purpose of attaching it to any iixed object fitting sufficiently loose to allow the ring to turn freely in it. The straps intended to be connected to the ring' are bent around the sliding bar, or bars, and secured-in any convenient manner the sliding bar or bars moving freely in any required direction around the ring, protect-ing the bends in the straps from cutting or wearing` outi by friction and also allowing the straps to accommodate themselves to any deviation from the direct line of draft.
Vhat I vclaim as new in my invention and desireto secure by Letters Patent isy The combination of a ,sliding bar or sliding' bars (either with or without guides or guard bars,) with a ring in the manner substantially as described, for the purpose of being applied to straps for harness or for any other purpose to which it may be ap ANDREV DIETZ.
plicable.
