FASTENING POR BRACELETS.

T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN;

Be it known Athat I, GEORGE H. SOULE, -of Jersey City,in the county ofl Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Fastening for Bracelets; and do hereby declare that the following is a fullclear, and exact description tiereot',I reference being had to the accompanying drawings. y

The nature of my invention consists in so forming the fastening-device as to allow rof the chain ofthe bracelet beingpermanently' fastened therein, at or near one of itsl ends, while the other end of said chain is left free to slide in said fastener, and to be secured therein at any desired point of the chain, so that the bracelet can be thus made to snit in size any wrist. I l

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use my invention, I will describe it as follows, viz

I maize the clasp or fastener, A, iig. 1, of a. shape and si'ze to correspond with the chain, B,`to which it is to be attached In one en d of the clasp, as seen at a, iig. 2, I fasten permanentlythe chain. The other end is made so as to allow the chain to slide freely' therein. p

Y `In order to fasten the chain B in the clasp orV fastener-A, at any desired point of said chain, I attach to theend of the clasiby means of a hinge, as seen at c, a lever, D, which is shown openin iig. 1, and closed in {ig.'2. `The leve-r is provided, atlitsoppo's'itc end from the hinge, with a spring-catch, as seen atd, iig. 1, which, when the clasp is being closed, is forcetlvdown through va mortise, b, in the clasp, at e, iigdl, and,.whenit is forced home therein, the upper end f passes the point g at the sideof the mortise Z7, and springs out under the l same and holds it there. There is a small projection on the front of the spring-catch, which extends above it,

and therefore does not pass the pointy when the clasp is being closed; and, when it is desired to open the clasp I press this piece,`z', backward, and this carries with it the spring-catch cl, and relieves it from the point g, and then the lever D is free to open. To the under side of D is attached a spring, o, which, when the lever D is pressed down on the clasp in closing, is carried down with it, and passes through the large mortise p, and presses upon the chain IB, whenrit is in its place in the clasp, and holds it as placed therein.

This clasp may be ornamentedin any desired way, and made to suit any desired chain. Havirig thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 'The clasp or fastener A, as shown and described. v
